Science Teaching Laboratories - BGS STEAM
Brisbane, Meanjin, Queensland
The Brisbane Grammar School STEAM Precinct reimagines the way students engage with science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics — transforming learning from passive observation to active discovery.
At the heart of the precinct are the science teaching laboratories, designed as transparent, flexible, and connected environments where experimentation and creativity unfold side by side. Each lab supports hands-on inquiry and teacher-led exploration while maintaining strong visual and physical links to surrounding collaboration zones and informal learning spaces.
Natural light, visibility, and spatial layering promote engagement and curiosity, while the architecture celebrates the processes of scientific thinking, observation, testing, reflection, and iteration. The result is a living theatre of learning, where every element, from material detail to spatial flow, contributes to an atmosphere of curiosity and confidence.
This award-winning facility demonstrates how architecture can act as a catalyst for contemporary pedagogy, uniting science and imagination to inspire the next generation of thinkers, innovators, and creators.
