UQ Student Residences Project

St Lucia Campus, Brisbane, Meanjin, Queensland

The UQ Student Housing Precinct is an initiative to deliver high quality, self-catered student accommodation facilities to the St Lucia campus. The housing will be equivalent to the best available in Australia and overseas. It is critical that student accommodation is designed quite clearly with the student in mind and must contribute to, and deliver, a great student experience

  • We are excited about bringing the best of education and residential design to the University of Queensland. Wilson Architects’ extensive experience in education design will be highly complimented by Timothy Hill’s exemplary residential projects,”

“The team has a unique combination of expertise in designing for both ‘living and learning.”

    - Hamilton Wilson, Managing Director, Wilson Architects.

The accommodation is intended for single students, predominantly undergraduates but with some older students in postgraduate coursework masters programs or other postgraduates. It is envisaged that a balance between domestic and international students will contribute to the optimum student experience.

Accommodation is predominantly in households encouraging social engagement and sense of community by sharing kitchen and living facilities in groups between 4 & 12 students. Three distinct and identifiable buildings are composed to form a new streetscape and access point on the Western flank of the campus.

Accommodation is supported by the provision of significant supported learning opportunities, creating a ‘Living and Learning’ environment. This combination of private student space, collective domestic space and managed group spaces gives the 1300 residents 46m2 per student.

“We are privileged to be engaged by such a sophisticated client,”

“UQ’s brief calls for a complete and life-enhancing environment reaching way beyond just stashing students in ensuited cells. I hope their farsightedness will likely, over the decades, eventuate in a very loyal alumni and some smart citizens. Expectations are high all round.”

-Timothy Hill, Managing Director, Partners Hill.
