  • College Heart Centre

The College Heart Centre at Redlands College in Wellington Point redefines the student learning experience by integrating key elements such as library, learning spaces, teachers, wellbeing support, and food, with a focus on student perspective.

    Building Intent

The project aims to create a space that fosters a sense of belonging and addresses learning from the student's viewpoint. It is designed as a 'Building for Learning' based on the four pillars of Students, Learning, Place, and Community.

    Facility Design

The ground floor features the Junior and Senior Library, flexible learning spaces, Student Services, Wellbeing support, hospitality kitchens, and tuckshop. Level 1 houses Teacher workplaces, meeting rooms, flexible classrooms, academic resources, and School executive offices.

    Student-Centric Approach

Students are central to the building's design, enabling easy access to teachers, tutors, and support services. The space is public and democratic, encouraging active engagement and extended learning opportunities.

    Learning Environment

Learning spaces are intentionally designed to support different learning styles. For example, the library now offers transparency, multiple entries, and increased collaboration spaces.

Place and Community Integration**: The design emphasizes the scale of covered spaces and creates a dramatic entry experience. The layout is simple and legible, providing spaces for parents and students to gather, fostering a sense of community.

    Community Support

The facility provides gathering spaces for both students and teachers, meeting rooms, and generous library spaces. The design encourages community engagement and interaction for a holistic learning experience.

  • “Importantly, this building is called College Heart, not just because it is a central integrating space for our community, but because it is only alive and beating when students are learning in it. These learning spaces enable the relationships that come from the heart to be fully expressed and form the foundational element of any successful learning journey between staff, students and parents.”

Dr Andrew Johnson, Principal, Redlands College.
