Kooroomba Lavender Farm & Vineyard

Mount Alford, Queensland

Wilson Architects provided full architectural & landscape architectural services for this greenfield project, to establish a vineyard cellar door and lavender fields at the Boonah property – Kooroomba.

Generally, materials were kept raw, while the detailing was refined. The building’s material palette consists of stone, rough-sawn timber and willow stick ceiling, contrasting with polished concrete, smooth plywood, zincalume sheeting and stainless steel. Substantial openings are provided from the restaurant allowing views over the vineyard, to the surrounding mountains.

Articulated aluminium sunshading is provided to these openings to control the heat and glare of the western sun.

The landscape component included the planning for the regional tourist facility with car parking, the planting and design of the deciduous forest and access ways, and the development of an outdoor seating terrace, looking out to a fabulous framed view of the Scenic Rim landscape.
