Canterbury College Masterplan & Junior School Building
Waterford, Queensland
Wilson Architects developed a masterplan for Canterbury College’s Junior School to guide the long-term evolution of the campus and improve the experience of its youngest learners.
Created through close consultation with students, staff and parents, the plan establishes a clear framework for future development, improving wayfinding, strengthening connections between existing buildings and creating a cohesive precinct identity.
The first stage of the masterplan delivers the Bareibunn Precinct — named from the Yugambeh word meaning “to dream” — designed for Prep to Year 2 students. The project introduces eight new classrooms, specialist STEAM and performing arts spaces, a double-height junior library and a 500m² Covered Outdoor Learning Area (COLA). These flexible indoor and outdoor environments support contemporary teaching methods while encouraging play, collaboration and outdoor learning.
Landscape and architecture are carefully integrated to connect the precinct to the site’s land, trees and sky, creating welcoming spaces that respond to the scale and curiosity of young learners. The project establishes a new design language for the campus and provides a clear foundation for future stages of the Canterbury College masterplan.
