The moment you step off the boat at Great Keppel Island, the island should speak to you. The Arrivals Plaza at Fisherman's Beach is designed to make that first contact count: a gateway precinct that is at once practical, cultural, and deeply connected to place.
Wilson Architects has designed the Plaza as the catalyst for a broader vision: the long-term transformation of Fisherman's Beach into a vibrant Gateway Precinct, guided by the values of the Great Keppel Island (Wop-pa) Master Plan. From the outset, the design has been grounded in Woppaburra culture, woven through materiality, storytelling, and spatial experience rather than applied as ornament.
The facility delivers a visitor centre, flexible tenancy spaces, all-abilities amenities, family changerooms, day lockers, beach showers, and shaded gathering areas: everything a visitor needs to arrive well and leave wanting to return. A welcoming circle and nature-based play space invite learning about Woppaburra country, while a new accessible pathway connects the beach arrivals area to the central promenade, the spine of the precinct as it grows.
Rehabilitated native vegetation anchors the site ecologically, restoring what belongs there and framing the built elements within the island's natural character. Accessibility is not an afterthought. It is a design premise, ensuring the plaza works for every visitor from the moment they land.
