QIMR Bancroft Refurbishment,

Queensland Berghofer Institute of Medical Research Research (QIMR)

The refurbishment of the QIMR Bancroft Building followed on as a subsequent phase of work from the recently completed QIMR Central Building.

The original building, completed in 1991, upgraded the research laboratory spaces to comply with current laboratory standards. To achieve this the laboratory floor plate was substantially re-organised and re-planned to match the quality of the adjoining QIMR Central building.

The existing floor plate was also extended toward the Herston Road street frontage and a new façade installed to present a unified QIMR street presence, and to avail usable floor space internally.

The complexity of this process dealt with the building remaining in occupations and staged delivery of individual floors as they were completed.  The re-occupation of the completed floors allowed the refurbishment of the vacated floors to proceed through a sequenced works program.
